About the Book

A story of becoming

From Nigeria to Chicago, and from survival to fatherhood, this memoir is a letter written in love, honesty, and hope.

Dear Ekene,

Every father leaves something behind. This one chose to leave the truth.

Chicago, 2016

01

A new beginning

On August 1st, 2016, Jindu Peter Elueze stepped off a plane in Chicago with a suitcase, an accent, and nothing else. He left behind a name that meant something in Nigeria to become, in his own words, "just a man with an accent," starting over from zero.

For Ekene

02

A letter to his son

Dear Ekene is the letter he wished someone had written for him, written instead for his son. It tells the story of hunger, immigration, fatherhood, sacrifice, betrayal, resilience, faith, and unconditional love.

The inheritance

03

Truth over polish

This is not a polished success story. It is an honest account of becoming the kind of father who chooses healing over brokenness, and leaves truth as his son's inheritance.

An honest account of becoming the kind of father who chooses healing over brokenness.

From hardship to purpose

Jindu Peter Elueze is a Nigerian born entrepreneur, humanitarian, and storyteller whose life's work sits at the intersection of compassion and enterprise. Over the past decade, he has built an interconnected ecosystem of nonprofit and for profit ventures, each one designed to reinforce the others, and all of them rooted in a single conviction: that dignity, community, and opportunity should never be luxuries.

Born in Nigeria and now based in Chicago, Jindu's journey to America began in August 2016. What started as one man's pursuit of a better life has, in the ten years since, grown into a body of work spanning animal welfare, women's empowerment, publishing, and technology, touching thousands of lives across two continents.
